This is where it all began
Around ten years ago, David Cook, our CEO travelled back to the UK for the first time in years. During that visit, he saw something he could not ignore: people sleeping rough in freezing rain, in one of the world’s most developed countries. The shock was not only the visibility of homelessness. It was the realisation that this was happening in a place with resources, systems, and expertise, and yet still, people were being left exposed.
The deeper he looked, the clearer the problem became. The issue was not always a lack of solutions. Too often, it was delay. Layers of process. Slow systems. Too much bureaucracy, and not enough urgency for people who could not afford to wait.
Years later, that moment still matters. More so now. Because when you look at homelessness through the eyes of a parent, the idea of any child sleeping without safety or shelter stops being something sad and distant. It becomes completely unacceptable.
That is why Build Here. Shelter There. exists.
Our Knowledge &
Our Commitment
We have already begun developing a range of bespoke, affordable housing units designed to provide safe, dignified and long-term accommodation for people experiencing homelessness and communities in need. The initial concepts are now being refined to improve efficiency, comfort, durability and ease of construction.
Each unit can be customised to meet different needs, transported within standard shipping containers and assembled quickly on site. The modular design also allows units to be connected and stacked, creating anything from individual homes to larger multi-storey housing blocks. By working in partnership with government agencies, charities and corporate organisations, we aim to combine expertise, funding and resources to bring these projects to life and deliver meaningful, scalable housing solutions where they are needed most.
More than buildings
Build Here. Shelter There. is not about charity for charity’s sake, and it is not about buildings alone.
It is about dignity, safety, stability, and the possibility of something better. A roof is not the end goal. It is the starting point. It creates protection, supports education, and gives families a foundation to rebuild from.
Although this initiative began with a moment in the UK, it exists because homelessness and housing insecurity are global failures. There are families, children, and vulnerable people all over the world living without the safety and stability most of us take for granted. That is why “there” is not fixed to one geography. “There” can be anywhere meaningful impact can be made through the right delivery partners, the right practical support, and the right level of care.
We believe businesses can act when systems cannot or will not. We believe expertise should be mobilised, not stalled. And we believe every project delivered here can help create real shelter there. We also believe trust has to be earned. That is why our impact will be tracked and reported annually, verified through delivery partners, and communicated in terms of real outcomes wherever possible. Our focus is not on performative numbers. It is on people sheltered, support delivered, and progress made.
Because meaningful impact is not measured by money alone. It is also measured in time given, expertise shared, awareness raised, and the strength of the community behind it.
